House of the Eucharistic Heart
Lost in the middle of meadows and forests, located in the "Franches-Montagnes," a part of the Jura region of Switzerland located right on the French-Swiss border, the House of the Eucharistic Heart had long served as a school and boarding school while it was run by the Fathers of the Holy Sacrament. We have been in this House since 2011. Major restoration work was undertaken on the old building which housed boarding school. A complete second floor has been restored, as well as the first floor and all the external insulation. Fourteen rooms are thus at the disposal of the guesthouse to welcome retreatants in both summer and winter!
This site was originally a simple farm, suitable for agricultural work because of its many pastures and grounds. At the end of the 19th century, Bishop Pitoye, founder of the work of voluntary catechisms and of the First Communion, chose, with the help of Father Citherlet, priest of Le Noirmont, this remarkable farm in order to receive and prepare orphans and poor children for their First Communion by providing them with a solid religious formation.
The work of First Communion, which could not be continued in this location for financial reasons, had opened the door to Eucharistic devotion in this area of Les Côtes. In 1919, the Fathers of the Blessed Sacrament settled in Les Côtes where they would shine for nearly a century, notably through their boarding school.
The spirit of the Côtes remains the same, faithful to its primary vocation, by exposition of the Blessed Sacrament all day long in the chapel. In September 2012, Cardinal Burke came to inaugurate the new convent, where many of the faithful welcomed him warmly.
